I've started converting my old lightbulbs into smart lightbulbs using the ESP32 and ESP8266 devices. I didn't want to lose the functionality of the old ones so I use a plug that converts the outlet to 12v then I use that to power the lamp and a 12v dc to 5v DC converter to power the ESP device. The ESP device is then connected to a switch that looks like a regular lamp handle and a relay to control the bulb. These lights really help. They are quite bright and provide good lighting. In fact, the woman didn't even notice that the bulbs weren't 120V, or that the bulbs were smart.
