Too narrow for large bottles

I bought these because metal fasteners rust in Maui. I keep a jug of cold water in the fridge and 2 in the car after surfing. These lids feel flat, like they need an extra 1 or 2 millimeters to screw on. I think they are suitable for small bottles.
