I try very hard not to post same day shipping reviews no matter how good I find the product because you can never tell the day in advance that can go wrong later walk. However, I'm actually confident and happy enough to try. If I change later, they are unlikely to change this rating. (updated 6/19/20 - one week, used it for web design work and content creation, still love it) I needed a laptop for business. My requirements for this were pretty simple: something with a sharp but conservative look, MOBILE (not heavy and bulky) but as powerful (or capable to be as powerful) as my much larger personal laptop. It came to that and Lenovo Flex. I chose it because it's all metal, and I liked the Macbook Air when I was Apple's systems manager for its durability, style, and portability. Too bad that the main memory cannot be upgraded (soldered). However, the RAM of the Lenovo Flex cannot be upgraded either. It also comes with a weaker processor (Ryzen 5, which can't quite keep up with the i7). I doubt anyone will need more than 8GB to 16GB of RAM over the lifespan of these laptops. I knew if I had a Ryzen 5 I would just want a Ryzen 7 processor more (you can never upgrade processors in a laptop). Although Swift has less RAM, it has proven to be a winner in both design and performance. when I compared it to Flex on the web. I got a little worried when I read a review that complained that Swift's screen and graphics were almost unusable. But I obviously had nothing to fear. These professional reviewers can sometimes be so snobbish about the gear that they set the bar higher than anyone else in the real world. The screen is semi-matte. I have very sensitive eyes, so sensitive that I often have to wear blue light blocking glasses to deal with sunlight, bright indoor lights, or computer lights. Even the smallest flicker is felt to me in a very uncomfortable, painful way that strains my eyes. This display has minimal flicker. This is NOTHING as described in the reviews which made me afraid of not being able to use this laptop. It's VERY easy on the eye after switching AMD Radeon settings to Enhanced and High Res (which both smooths out text and sharpens it). It also does NOT have a glossy, highly reflective screen. The screen is semi-matte at its worst (it's not even that much, to be honest), and when it's on it goes completely matte. Apparently, after a complaint, Acer changed the display (they're good at that sort of thing). It's going to be very bright and the colors are close to real as far as I can tell - just posting there will reveal the truth, which I haven't done yet. But then again, I can't believe how close it is to the Macbook Air. Graphics performance: This is not a gaming laptop, although I'm sure it's good enough to play most games at an average level. and he would be PERFECT for a student. It's definitely powerful enough to work seamlessly for graphic designers, photographers, and anyone who tends to keep multiple tabs open in their browser. Smooth scrolling and rendering, no lag or crashes. I cannot praise the Ryzen 7 processor enough. I'm upgrading from an 8th gen i7 and the Ryzen 7 is MUCH more responsive and less prone to freezes or errors. I can very easily believe that it runs at 4GHz. These eight cores handle multitasking like a true champion. I was worried, that the RAM would give me some performance issues since it's only 8GB and doesn't have enough power to improve battery performance. So far I've been surprised that this low-power RAM can really keep up with me. despite my problems with windows never closing or closing. lol. The keyboard is very comfortable if you have small to medium sized hands. It's taking some time to get used to the smaller form factor. People with big hands will immediately hate the keyboard because of its compact size. Other than that, this is a large keyboard compared to COMPACT keyboards and 100% identical to Macbook Air keyboard. Same feeling and stuff. Backlit buttons that can be turned on or off. Something SUPER cool is that Acer figured out how to enable numlock and the numeric keypad by labeling some letter keys with numbers and then adding numlock. (see my pics) If you turn on the manual equalizer in the audio settings and turn it down, the speakers get really loud, which is also nice (no rattling, no stress on the drivers). Although by default I can see a lot of people complaining that the speakers don't get loud. By default, they are not noisy at all. With the EQ at maximum I would compare them to a mini bluetooth speaker. In short, unless you plan to connect it to other speakers, don't buy it for sound. For normal everyday use, like watching YouTube videos or streaming movies, the built-in speakers should be fine. The lid is very easy to open. The screen is also reinforced. Cosmetic damage may occur if you drop it, but in most cases it should hold up. At worst, you'll see minor cosmetic damage (scratches, dents) and a cracked screen. That's better than what you might encounter with a typical plastic case. I once dropped a laptop in a plastic case off the back of my car (I was an idiot and left it on the hood). It completely destroyed the body. the laptop still worked, but there was bare circuit board everywhere. It was ugly lol. Now there are complaints about battery life, but I haven't had any issues. I also didn't use the default settings in some key areas. I changed Radeon settings to focus more on battery life than performance. I then changed the power settings to get the best battery life. I don't think that's a lot now, especially with my massive collection of background apps, but given the complaints that the battery doesn't last more than an hour. Hmm I don't see it. I've been on battery for an hour now and after charging to 98% I have 12 hours and 46 minutes left. I assume that the expected battery life is between 4.5 and 6 hours on average. great car and amazing value in my book. I have no idea, why the pro reviewers found it so bad (despite respecting it as a budget laptop). Maybe they compared it to more expensive laptops and not other models in this price range? Or maybe the old version really was that bad. I'm sticking with it because IT WORKS. Update: Two months later. it still works like the day i got it. I'm actually shocked that it continues to perform so well with 8GB of energy efficient RAM. I suspect the difference is a combination of using a better processor and using an SSD. My other laptop has a quad-core A12 up to 3GHz, while this Ryzen 7 has an octa-core up to 4GHz. The Care Center App has a feature that allows Only charge the battery up to 80% when plugged in (prevents battery cells from burning out). Despite the fact that I used it plugged in the entire time, I didn't lose battery health. It still works for six or more hours without a battery. that I used it plugged in the whole time, I didn't lose any battery power.
