Update: The seller contacted me and replaced the original unit very quickly after I left a review. It's possible that the first unit I received was damaged by the original purchaser before it was returned. I can only guess. In any case, the seller did the right thing by replacing the damaged device. I can say that I feel safe buying from this seller. They contacted me to fix it and I ended up with a seal that works. I have changed this rating from one star to three stars. I just can't give a better rating as the product needs to be replaced. Also, the replacement unit has a few scratches and, frankly, just doesn't look like a new product. It works and maybe at this price it's as good as cheap imports like this but I just don't look at it and don't think it's a 5 star product. First review: If I hadn't needed it immediately to finish packaging a product for the Christmas sale I would have sent it back. When it came out of the box I doubt it could have done anything other than reset the circuit breaker. When I took it out of the box, I noticed that it wasn't lying flat on the table. I turned it over and found that the bottom cover didn't fit properly, but was scratched and dented like it'd been hit with a hammer or rock. I removed the cover to fix and attach it. Looking inside I found that the lever was bent and twisted so the heating element would short out on the handle if I tried to use it. I can only speculate if he electrocuted me or if the circuit breaker blew. It's completely ridiculous that I have to rebuild a tool before using it. How many people were shocked by such damage or failed seals?
