Ordered a size 7 for a 6 1/2 year old woman's foot - her foot is covered with corns and bunions and is therefore wide at the ball of the toes. Sole. They fit perfectly and the drawstring that threads through the back closure ensures a snug fit. The outsole has hard rubber lugs, I call them cleats as they are little nipples made out of thick black rubber. They stick like crazy. Do not slide on wet glass, wet pool edges or pool floors. I was about to return them when the woman threw a tantrum that she didn't need these or similar pool shoes and wouldn't have any safety issues. BUT we got over it and now she goes into the pool very confidently and does pool water exercises. big, and i know i can hit 8. I think you yourself know if you need to go up or down if you are a size 1/2. Up if you have calluses or bursitis and down if your foot is normal and you know you could never go the next full size up. I'm so excited and now we're both safe. Slippery pools, slippery grass, slippery steps are just as dangerous with age and I really think it's highly advisable to wear shoes with good grip on these surfaces. FYI - shopped at major sporting goods stores and pharmacies and found prices ranging from $10-$25 for lower quality items, mesh top, poor choice of color, no threaded laces at ankle and very unreliable grip soles. Shipping on the 18 shoe I ordered from is only $2.50, and nationwide shipping from New York state to California took only a few days. It has cost me over $2.50 to drive through the heat and traffic and browse the local shops. I love these shoes!
