Real henna is very sensitive to time and temperature. Also, it's an herb, so it has an expiration date. What I love about it is that it actually makes my hair healthier instead of tearing it down like chemical products that I will never go back to (they made my hair feel so uncomfortable, like old, dead, dry, rough). . rope!) Before I go to bed I throw a towel over my shoulders, soak my hair in coconut oil and then add henna paste which I mix thoroughly into my hair (use gloves or it will stain your hands too). Be sure to wipe off any small bits that get on your neck, ears, forehead, or sink. Then I stuff my hair in a shower cap, wrap my hair in a towel (to keep it warm - henna dyes best when it's warm) and sleep on it. In the morning I wash off the henna and coconut oil very thoroughly (at least 2 shampoos + one more in the evening to extract the remaining coconut oil). Presto! Smooth, shiny, radiant and incredibly healthy hair. Worth it. I find that this particular product has a consistent color and quality when used properly which is why I like it a lot. Mahogany is a very tasty rich dark brown with lovely red highlights that looks classy, fabulous and just what I needed.
