We stumbled across a couple of ATVs at a local hobby store and thought they looked fun. At home my son found the X4 after looking at many others and thought this was the one he would like. I ordered three for Christmas (one each for my boys and one for me!). In addition to the quad, I also ordered a protective case with extra props, SD cards and extra batteries - SD cards and batteries are highly recommended. I wasn't aware the quad came with protection and extra props in the box (it's pretty cool!) so I'd wait to order more. Although they arrived on the Saturday after Christmas, we caught up on the fun very quickly. The guys were happy to just be able to fly and the quads were ready for it straight away. After a few hard landings, we installed the fenders (very easy) and read the instructions a little more. I strongly recommend reading the manual. On my first flight I was a bit more careful. I was happy to start with a few takeoffs and landings. I wanted to feel in control so I flew low and slow. With patience, the X4 becomes very stable and easy to drive. I recommend sitting in a large room and learning how to calibrate and use the trim controls. The extra batteries really came in handy as we were all able to have a good flying experience on these quads. With all the batteries waiting to be charged, we took a closer look at the manual to understand how to crop, calibrate, and record video. After a week we were all pretty good at flying ATVs. Of course, we changed a screw or two and learned how to drop your hands after a hard landing (page 19 in the guide). But that didn't stop us from having fun with this ATV! We were all impressed by the video. The color and details are good for indoor flying. I had fun watching the living room upscaling video. Last time I managed to shoot a video on the street. I've been waiting for a day without wind. The video resolution isn't the best for the distance, but familiar landmarks are recognized. I thought the X4 had climbed 70 feet - what a view! At this altitude I had good control. When the quad is lowered it seems to wobble a bit but is not unstable. A little more gas near the bottom and he recovered very well. I have previously purchased an AR drone but its size limits what I can do indoors. X4 is a long-awaited and fun alternative! Update April 20, 2014 Still having a blast flying this cool little ATV! In warmer weather, I get great video from almost 200 feet up. I've found that my quad turns slightly to the left after launch. I assumed my propellers were slightly bent and it didn't affect the flight. As I removed all of the supports and guards to adjust the LED, I noticed fibers wrapped around each motor armature. These fibers are not displayed with props! I removed the fibers from all four rebars. Now my quad doesn't have that slight spin anymore. I recommend checking for fibers regularly to keep the plane in good flying condition!
