Machined. Seems well done. I love that it doesn't have red and black knobs so it doesn't look as industrial in my bathroom as the old one did. What I don't like is that it has tamper evident sockets. It is VERY difficult to connect the plug to it. You have to push really hard to open the tamper doors. I will never receive counterfeit-proof material again.
