Apparent lack of QC - camp kitchen

A strong chemical smell from the solution remained on the plates. Wear gloves when unpacking or it will stay on your skin for a few days. Mine arrived with a serious dimple in one of the steel sheets. No deal breaker. I didn't buy it to look pretty. However, when I examined the sheets further, not a single sheet arrived without some form of rust. All rust spots were along the cut edges. Unfortunately, while the cuts were clean and well-aligned, most of the center tray's placement slots still had blanks filling in the cutouts. And all these specimens were very rusty. I considered just banging out the blanks and taking the SOS Rust Pad to scrape off any coating, but decided against it. Normally I wouldn't mind shortcomings. This is a pocket stove, not a jewel case, and is well used. However, the device is heavy for its size. Not what ultralight packers need. Feels heavy in hand. The bag feels well constructed and sturdy, but it doesn't have room for anything else. As it's supposed to be stainless steel I'm not sure it will last very long due to rusting at almost every joint. I will most likely be returning it and buying a cheaper Luxida as I'm afraid I won't be able to remove the rust and it will fail when I actually have to use it. If it had arrived with just a few dents I would have given 4 stars. Assembly is easy without looking at the instructions. I was planning to modify it a bit and was able to with some simple tools. Assembled it's quite strong, and with a little more intake ventilation the fuel should burn clean. I would recommend it, but only if you buy it at your own risk. I may have just received a lemon in a bunch but I won't be buying more to find out.
