Review on Purina Beyond Grain Free Ocean Whitefish & Egg Adult Dry Cat Food: A Natural and Nutritious Choice by Chelsea Hayes

I don't know if it was a bad bag or something else.

. The first day I fed this to my cat for half an hour, she made coughing/squeezing noises (but didn't vomit) while stroking her mouth a little. stuck out his tongue and developed very loud breathing. For the rest of the evening he just wanted to lie next to me, often sitting up and lying down again. while time does that weird breathing and some drooling. I could look into his mouth and saw nothing sticking that would bother him. According to a phone conversation with our local veterinarian, I was keeping a close eye on him and was prepared to remove him from the veterinary emergency room if he got worse. After about six hours I found it more comfortable and decided to reconsider in the morning. For the next three days I only fed him canned food because I figured he might have a cold or something and canned food was easier to digest. He was fine. No breathing/coughing problems. On the fourth day, I gave in to his relentless "hunger drama" and gave him a bowl of this kibble. Again, within a short period of time, he had the same strange breathing/noise/discomfort symptoms and I realized it must have been food both times. The next day he was fine again and my nerves were on edge. I won't try a third time. He started eating another brand of kibble again and we had no problems. **May I add that he lives indoors permanently so no outside food source needed to be considered. I decided that now that I have this full bag of groceries, I can't use them. I gave it to my neighbor who was able to feed it to some of the homeless animals that roam the area. Three of them vomited while still eating their portions, but the other two had eaten, were done, and looked perfectly normal at the time, and even later that day, when she checked them. The rest of the pack is now thrown away as it may not be suitable for all cats. There seems to be some kind of irritant that works for some and not for others. Lesson learned for $20.00

Pros
  • . One year probationary period.
Cons
  • . Crumpled packaging.
