I bought it with the intention for my almost 8 year old to wear it. He's too small for his head. I have 4.5 year old twins and the hat sits on their heads like a skullcap. There is no slip in this hat. I would buy something else if I knew but didn't want to go back as I would have another child who could wear this. The hat is very soft on the inside and keeps my son's head warm. So if your child has a VERY small head (I have a medium sized head) then this hat should be marketed to 3-5 year olds, not 5+.
