When it arrived it was folded as described for ease of travel, but even after a year of inactivity the folds have not smoothed out on my shelf. It's not very attractive with all those folds, but if you need a hat for a trip and you have very little space, it's fine. It's just not the kind of hat I use as my everyday headwear. The hole in the back works well for a ponytail just like a baseball cap, the difference is that you have your neck covered and it has a strap to keep it in place in windy conditions.
