Good price, poor quality

I bought soft boxes for the YT channel. The kit includes 3 LEDs that switch from white to amber. Putting them together for the first time isn't that easy until you figure out how it all fits together, but it wasn't too bad and once you've done it you'll be fine. At first I was really impressed. They are really bright at full power. I found the coasters to be of fairly good quality and nothing to tip over. The problem is with the LED lighting potentiometers. Not sure if they're just really poor quality pots (electronics that spin with the dimmer knob) or other electronics in the world. Personally I suppose it's a bad sweep in a cheap pot. This is a technical talk about cheap dimmer parts. Leaving the lights at full brightness (knob turned fully clockwise) or on the lowest setting seems to work fine. But I had to set up a scene that would look perfect on my webcam. My ideal nighttime setting is slightly higher than "low". The buttons are very sensitive in the lower area. You barely touch them and they get bright so quickly that the rest of turning the knob does almost nothing as the brightness is almost full after a small twist. To be honest, for the price I wouldn't mind playing with it, but the problem is that even if you can get it where you want it, the light will flicker between the current settings and either brighter or dimmer. The change is quite abrupt, so you end up with a light that is constantly changing in brightness. Two of the three lights make it seriously, and the third does too, but it's not that finicky and I can get it to work most of the time. I contacted the company today. I can let you know if the issue is resolved but I can just repackage it, send it back and try a different brand.

Pros
  • Worth the money
Cons
  • Everything is fine
