Sisal rope appears to be of high quality. I replace them with sisal rope. It's cheaper to take the time to replace it yourself and then buy a new scratching post in most cases. Cat's claws need to fall off and this type of material is best scratched for this to happen. This sisal is soft and durable, not stiff like some. This type of material also helps them avoid scratching furniture or damaging fabric or leather. They love the feel and smell of the sisal material. I've tried others like jute, but sisal seems to be a cat's favorite. My cats don't scratch my furniture because of the sisal. for crafts and need this type of rope because it is soft and not scratchy.
