This thing is great in the winter, but I knew that because it replaced the 12oz version I lost on the bus. The liquid you pour basically stays at the same temperature overnight. Set the coffee to 180F at night, it could be 160F in the morning (especially if you preheat the inside of the thermos as the physics still apply). If you want to drink brewed coffee for lunch in the morning, it is better to add a little cold water. In the summer I started using it to hold iced tea or water on the table. It's usually refilled every two hours, so it's not a problem. However, unlike a glass, it doesn't sweat on the outside, so things on my desk don't get wet. But last Saturday I put it empty in the freezer to cool, filled with ice cubes and added ice water. out of the fridge. Then I drove to the park and left it in the trunk. It was 95 outside. I went camping overnight and returned the next day, more than 24 hours later, in 36 degrees Celsius. The car was under a tree, so there was partial shade. There was still plenty of ice in the thermos. I drank some water (the best ever) and threw the thermos in my backpack with the rest of the ice. When I unpacked in the evening, there was still ice in it! Of course, melting ice can absorb a lot of heat energy, but this is the first time I've used this thermos to keep things cold for so long. I find that the top is easy to take apart completely, brush and soak in soapy water overnight to keep warm. it is hygienic. I only do this every two weeks or so - it really is too much for the rough stuff to grow fast. Otherwise I only fill halfway with warm soapy water, seal, shake, pour through the spout, repeat several times with clean water. Soak in a weak bleach solution for 1 hour after using it as a cocktail shaker with a drink that contains raw egg whites (hey, when the bars are closed a woman's gotta do what a woman's gotta do). I've never had any problems with leaks. It rattles quite a bit (like dropping a table or hitting the bottom of a bag that's roughly dropped) and still shows a bit of wear. Excellent one-hand operation for opening, drinking and closing while driving. The only things I would improve: - Open the lid at a slight angle to the drinking spout (rather than directly opposite) so those of us with European horse noses don't have a brown coffee stain on the tip when you touch the part of the lid that has the drinking hole covers - add a way to attach a cord - maybe allow for a slightly higher flow rate. As for the design, there's quite a bit of splattering when you pour a little out of this thermos.
