I got tired of having 13 pairs of mismatched cheap socks in my drawer and decided it was time to find new socks. I live in Phoenix and it's pretty warm here. In fact today it hit 110. I needed a sock that was comfortable, cool and not tight. Too many of my old socks were so tight at the top that I wanted to rip them off my feet. Even though they were wool, several reviews said they were cool and waterproof, so I decided to give them a try. Boy am I glad I did! These fit perfectly. The upper was snug enough not to slip, but not so tight that it left red marks at the end of the day. In fact, they're so comfortable that when I got home and put on my slippers, I didn't even want to take them off! I walked outside quite a bit today and my feet stayed dry and now that I'm home my feet feel good - not warm, not cold, but totally comfortable. These socks have a solid feel and have enough heel cushioning that I don't expect any holes in them any time soon. The seam around the toe is almost completely flush with a slight overhang making them comfortable around the toe. They felt a bit tight around the toe when I first put them on, but after about 30 minutes they loosened up nicely without pinching. The heel is padded and reinforced for durability, while the cuff is high enough to slip on easily and won't cause blisters in regular shoes. Overall, wool socks feel a bit rougher in the hands than synthetic socks, but they are very soft on the feet. The best part is their ability to breathe and wick away moisture. As mentioned, I live in Phoenix. I ran about a mile this afternoon and the temperature went up to 110. My feet were dry the entire time. When I got home I didn't have that typical "moss hole" feeling in my boots and the smell was also significantly reduced. I look forward to buying a few more pairs of these socks and tossing out all my old and more uncomfortable socks.
