Review on Discontinued Sony Bloggie Camera: Capturing Moments with Precision - Camera & Photo by Mike Kies

We bought this camera for a very specific purpose. We needed a camera that we could use for parkour, freerunning, and skateboarding footage, so portability was key. As a result, we got a camera that not only worked more than adequately for these purposes, but also turned out to be an excellent camera in every respect. Pros: The camera is very light but feels very solid. The 12.8 MP still sensor works very well and picks up even the slightest movement VERY clearly. Videos are created in mp4 (ipod) format, which is perfectly accepted by all my video editing programs. We had to update Windows Movie Maker to make it work with it. Once set up, you can mark images and videos for download and/or email, and then when you connect the camera to your computer it will do it for you. The USB port is connected to the camera itself, so you don't have to take anything with you. If you need a quick charge, borrow a USB port from your computer and let it charge you up. The camera also comes with a USB dongle for those ports that aren't in the most convenient places. The screen on this one looks amazing. 8 GB of storage is enough for me. If I have 4 hours of video and it doesn't upload, I'm doing something wrong. The switch-on time is minimal. I haven't measured the time, but I can say that it takes about 2 seconds from pressing the power button to being ready to shoot. Cons: The touch screen is very sensitive. Now it's not sensitive enough to be a big disappointment, but in my opinion it's too sensitive. I would appreciate an option where you could adjust the sensitivity of the screen. It might be asking a lot, I don't know, but it's just the way I feel. The same goes for the accelerometer (which adjusts the screen as the camera pans). Sometimes I feel like I barely tilt the camera and the screen adjusts to me. Now it doesn't really matter because it comes back easily. Maybe they made it so that they reacted during filming. The way I shoot photos and videos, this sensitivity isn't necessary. The USB stick that comes with Bloggie is a bit short. I'm not sure if plugging it into the front USB port of a full-size tower PC is actually better. Unfortunately, that doesn't matter in retail. Summary: If portability is the name of the game, then this camera packs a lot of features at a decent price. Sure, there are better cameras out there that do one thing way better than this camera, but Bloggie is really good at a lot of things. At the time of writing this review, Revain is selling it for $155, which is Prime's criteria and worth every penny.
