This mattress topper was exactly what I was looking for as the cover is cotton and no plastic. I was looking for a 100% cotton cover and here it is. I didn't need any extra padding (there's almost no padding here, it's just a case). I doubt it's waterproof, but I wasn't just looking for a waterproof pad for my husband and I. I just wanted a plain cotton mattress pad. However, this is a poor quality product. I washed the mattress topper before use. I washed it in cold water on a gentle cycle and dried it on a low heat. I didn't use fabric softener. Nothing unusual happened during washing. When I went to put the mattress pad on, I found that there was a large hole on the side. The fabric frays and tears beyond repair. I noticed a few other holes on the top of the mattress topper. These holes are fairly small but should not be present on a new and unused product. I never used this product before it started falling apart. Unfortunately I had to send it back and got my money back.
