So easy to die cut and emboss

AccuQuilt Go Fabric Cutter / B0021F62D6 Scoliosis. I really struggle with cutting fabric on any quilt project - all the tilting, measuring, pushing, and moving the rotary cutter just gives me all sorts of problems. Inspiration came when I noticed that a friend of mine (who works in paper crafts) was using a die cutter to create paper shapes and I had to wonder if there was anything similar for cutting shapes for quilts. Accuvilt before! cloth cutter. The advantages of the AccuQuilt are that it seems to be the most affordable fabric cutter and the machine is small and portable for the DIY enthusiast. The downsides are that you have to buy a new die for each shape and size you want to use - it's not like a paper cutter where you resize from 3.5" to 2.5" on a whim can customize. However, since I almost exclusively use 3.5" squares in quilting, this wasn't a disadvantage for me - I bought a 3.5" die to match my fabric cutter, and anything else I need I will continue to hand-crop as long as I can. This machine is so easy to use. The quilt I'm working on now calls for 60 pink squares. The die cutter I bought cuts two 3.5 inch squares for each layer of fabric and I can run 8 layers of fabric through the machine in one pass. That's four passes through the machine to get 64 squares - and I did it all right off the machine. box without reading the manual in less than 30 minutes. This job would take me at least 3-4 hours with a power cutter and my back would hurt afterwards. The two biggest complaints I've seen with AccuQuilt are that (a) the slingshot mats need to be replaced regularly and (b) some serious fabric waste needs to be accounted for. As for the first problem, carpets, I don't see a problem. The mats are a lot thicker than the spin mats I've bought in the past, so they should last a relatively long time, and the mats are pretty cheap at AccuQuilt, especially compared to the prices of the mats at my local fabric store. - The dice could have been laid out much more effectively to avoid casualties and I'm surprised this isn't the case. AccuQuilt makes and sells strip dies that allow you to cut two neat 3.5" strips side by side (as opposed to two squares) and it looks a lot more efficient in terms of fabric usage, but of course you're all you want still need to remove the rotating blade to cut squares out of the strips. I'll try anyway and see what happens. b) You like to collect scraps of fabric for quilts. I'm so glad I bought one and my only regret is that I didn't find it years ago, Ana Mardoll
