This product is designed for both indoor and outdoor use. I used it to replace an outlet on a 12 gauge extension cord (wires). I like the built in green LED that glows to indicate the presence of voltage. Some reviewers found the outlet difficult to plug in. I haven't done this, take your time and you will succeed. The only downside to this socket is the clear plastic inner insulating cover that insulates and supports the socket pins. Ideally, this clear plastic insulating cover would not be removable. It is easily removed during wiring, which can cause the socket contacts to fall out. Resetting the output pins isn't difficult, but it's important to note that the bare wires connecting the green LED can also fall off. The LED wires are held in place by simply squeezing them between the socket pins and the inner shell of the socket. If the output pins fall out, you only have to make sure that the lines leading to the LED are clamped between the pins and the insulating surface of the inner pin guide. You may notice that the LED flickers when you turn it on. This is not a product issue, it is simply because LEDs work best with DC power. Alternating current, which is common in many households, causes the LEDs to flicker slightly. Again this is not a problem but a consequence of the AC power supply to the LED.
