The electronics short-circuited shortly after switching on and produced a small flame.

This item lasted a total of approximately 5 seconds before arcing within the controller and igniting it. Luckily this happened while I was there to see it and turn it off manually. I opened it up to inspect the damage, there was a completely blackened resistor along with some damage to nearby components on a circuit board that appeared to be a power ballast for the light.
