I read about camcorders before I bought this one. I waited and waited for the price to be right and then jumped at it. I've spent about $200 on camcorder accessories, including a boom mic, zoom lens, extra batteries, etc. In my experience, this little camcorder is remarkably stingy when it comes to battery power. I wasn't close to exhaustion. Yes, smart batteries cost about $90 each, but I only needed the one that came with it. Dummy backups are cheap. The training in handling the video camera is carried out exclusively with practical means. I've invested a lot of money in raw video editing software and hardware. The latest 64-bit version of PowerDirector is fast, but only programmatically. . . . I'm running two GTX 760s on an ASUS Crosshair V with an 8-core AMD FX Zambezi chip and 32MB of Corsiar Dominator Platnum RAM. I'm not suggesting trying to edit videos on your laptop. I would give this camcorder five stars, but for this camcorder to reach its potential you need to invest heavily in camera accessories and (as above) video processing hardware/software. However, the result is very, very worth it.
