I have had Sansa Clip players for years and have spent thousands of hours using them both for exercising and listening to audio books. This latest iteration is a little disappointing. On the plus side, it has the same great sound, it's small and light, and it doesn't have the useless multi-colored screen of some previous versions. On the other hand, the processing quality seems to be cheaper and the audio book playback is a bit annoying. This is fine if you never leave the book, but if you switch to something else (e.g. music or a podcast) when you return to the book it will return to the beginning, not where you left off. Rewinding/fast forwarding is also very clumsy. Instead of smoothly scrolling through a book or song like the older versions, Jam moves in chunks, making it impossible to save just a few seconds. Updating to the latest firmware didn't help either. I can't understand why some of the things that worked so well in previous versions are so bad now. Typically, technology (and UI) gets better, not worse, over time. It's still amazing value for money. It's just sad to see a product that was so good slowly getting worse. I'd happily pay more to have the same quality as some of the previous versions but they seem to be no longer available. Like many longtime fans, I hope SanDisk changes direction and resumes this great little lineage.
