The smell of lens plastic is good for reading glasses

I absolutely loved these glasses - great adjustable frame, clear lenses - hadn't worn them in a while when I smelled something like old airplane glue OR maybe some type of plastic which has a pungent smell sometimes used in shoes, shower curtains and car tires. I realized I was breathing something that was irritating my nasal passages and eyes. The smell wasn't too strong, but distinct. It definitely happened because of the glasses. I let the jars air out for over a week. It came loose a bit but was still there when I tried to put them back on. Whatever that chemical is, whether in the glue used or in the lens material itself, I CANNOT wear glasses. Because I was so impressed with these glasses I threw away the packaging and was therefore unable to return them to Revain. Of course, I hope that reading glasses manufacturers do NOT use such lens plastics. I don't know if I'm unusually sensitive to this chemical or not, but I thought it was important enough to warn people about this issue. Be sure to try the glasses, but DO NOT throw away the packaging so you can return them if you have any problems. Other than that, they were very well designed reading glasses. I loved the frame, the clarity and shape of the lenses, the fact that you can adjust the earbuds - just don't expose my eyes and nose to that chemical. I hope the manufacturer sees this review and maybe takes steps to fix the cause.
