Do you have to sit or stand to use it?

I bought these for the night so I don't have to get up and go to bed as often after hip surgery. But you have to be standing or sitting to use it... in hamstring/thigh surgery and long immobilizer. it just doesn't work... I was very disappointed. and now stuck with the whole pack
