Perfect Fit for the Room - Marble Top Disappointed

I don't always review the items I buy from Revain but in this case I thought I would to give someone else a review that I'd like to see in advance. We recently moved into a new open plan house and have chosen a large portion for living space. While I LOVE this section, we saw right away that we also needed to update our end tables. Our 10 year old was boxy and came out too far at both ends of the section to fit in the space. We needed narrow side tables to better fit the space and leave enough space to go between the table and the wall. Our old ones didn't match our new color scheme anyway, so I was excited and started browsing. I searched everything and finally came across this table. The one we bought was a walnut base with a "marble" top. The "marble" top is the main reason for my rating. I liked the marble top idea because then I didn't have to worry about coasters or kids not being able to use it all the time. I now spend less than $100 per table. I'm clearly not expecting real authentic marble. But I was expecting something more like marble than it is. When I took it out of the box I was immediately a bit disappointed to see that the 'marble' record really needed a stand. It's more like a matte paper surface with a marble pattern printed on it. It looks very cheap and I don't expect it to last very long. At the same time, the tables fit perfectly into the room and look decent, at least from a distance. I'm just not interested in the "marble" up close. If I knew what it looks like, I probably would have chosen a different option. In the end I decided that given what I had spent and the stage of life we were in (it's hard to have good things with young kids anyway), I could keep them no matter how long they lasted. But be careful buyers, "marble" is not a decent looking synthetic marble, it's just a slab of wood covered with paper printed to make it look like marble.

Pros
  • It's OK!
Cons
  • Expensive Insurance
