Review on VIOLIN All Flash Arrays by Bronson Hussain

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Violin is a cloud based storage array that provides a lot of features for free.

As a software developer myself, I was initially excited to try the platform because it seemed like something I could use in our organization. However, upon implementation, I realized that the amount of work needed to get the product running properly was immense, and the support was terrible. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who wants a cheap alternative to Oracle EBS, but who does not have the time nor patience to learn the product. After two years of using Violin as my primary storage solution, I am no longer satisfied with their products or services at all. They do everything they possibly can to make your life miserable when you are trying to implement their solutions. For example, if you attempt to change any configuration settings (even just a port number) you will receive an error message from them stating "You must contact Support immediately". Then after contacting customer support, you may find yourself waiting weeks for an email response back telling you that there is absolutely no way to fix the issue. Also, if you run into issues during testing/development they refuse to help you unless you pay $5,000+ per hour for a consultant to solve the problem. Lastly, most of the consultants seem inexperienced and incompetent, which leads me to believe that they only hire people with very little technical knowledge or skillset. Overall, I feel that Violin has lost sight of why they started making these type of arrays; namely to provide companies with fast, reliable data storage without having to deal with all of the headaches associated with managing servers and databases themselves.
