I give 5 stars because the LCD is pretty good. You should calibrate it as the default settings are probably not what you want. I think for the $116 I paid that's a pretty good deal. This doesn't include a DVI cable, just a VGA/D-Sub cable, which makes sense as it's an old standard so anyone should be able to use it, although not everyone has DVI. I am using a DVI cable. Your mileage may vary depending on the VGA/D-Sub cable as the quality depends on the quality of the cable. As others have said, you need to lower the brightness. I think most people have it at 20. Mine is 30 and the default contrast is 70. You can try using an AVCHD calibration video. Just google "AVCHD Calibration". I also set the color temperature to medium. There are 5 picture modes: Custom, Text, Photo, Movie and GameCinema - they seem to be geared more towards live action which I don't actually see - the colors seem to bleed into anime. with it, so I leave it out. Game - I tried it with Tera and it makes the scenery look really good. That's probably because I enabled ClearType on Windows and assumed it was photo-oriented - I don't really like it because it changes colors. I suspect he's trying to make it more vivid, but to me it's an inaccurate representation of the real photo, so it doesn't look right. works pretty well to expand the amount of information I can see. I'm used to using HDTV 1366 x 768 720p and this is a really nice upgrade. To be honest I really can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on this screen. I think it might be better because I can't even see the screen door effect up close, but on a 32" HDTV 720p upstairs I can easily see it if I'm sitting within 5 or 6 feet. Just one last note. The viewing distance is 21.5 inches, but the LCD itself is 22 inches.
