Review on Mazur Instruments PRM 9000 Radiation Contamination by Dale Rylander

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent goods. PRM-9000 Understanding of Intended Use and Minimum Requirements .

Excellent product. PRM-9000 Knowing my intended use and my minimum requirements, I chose 3 similar products. The PRM-9000 outperformed the other two options due to its additional features. The cost didn't matter. I had a limit, but if what I wanted was too expensive, I wouldn't settle for less. Luckily I could afford this device. And its price seemed reasonable compared to the other two devices. Aside from the fact that I needed a high quality, accurate, and sensitive Geiger counter, I needed a way to find out the peaks and their times without having to sit and look at them all day. The PRM-9000 allows me to set it to alarm at a specific reading and it will store the last high reading it found along with a timestamp. It also logs data that you can download and analyze. And you can send decay pulses to an external device for . well I guess ie for additional analysis, processing, recording. I played with it all day. I was a bit disappointed, didn't find anything surprising that it was hot around my house lol. The few things I know of that are a bit hot were packed in moving boxes (rocks, old glass, etc.). I had to dig something out of the box. I found a used 1 inch round dielectric laser mirror. I took a 10 minute reading just above it and got a reading of 7,540 µSv/h. The highest I could find. Bye. I haven't checked everything yet though. My background levels (Twin Cities, Minnesota, southern suburbs) average 0.09 µSv/h during the day, this average drops to 0.07 µSv/h at night I have ordered the data cable I need. to connect it to a PC. Haven't done it yet but I assume it works as others have reported. if I play with it a lot and use the backlight a lot, with LED and sound on? What about data transfer? I think time will tell. If I have to unscrew 4 screws every few months to change the batteries, I'm going to get a little annoyed. Otherwise. I'm glad I did my research. I have no regrets having played around with it so far. It seems to give really consistent results. And I don't have to babysit him all day to know what happened and when. 5 Stars. but I will reduce that to 4 if I have to change the battery often lol.

Pros
  • Measuring range from 0.001 to 125 mR/h (0.01 to 1250 µSv/h) with a typical accuracy of +/- 10 percent
Cons
  • A newer model could have been chosen
