Review on πŸ’¨ High-Speed Lexar Professional 1066x 128GB CompactFlash Card: Optimal Performance for Photographers, Videographers, and Enthusiasts by Jordan Epps

Very fast CF card, no faster than 1000x but that's ok

So I got this card and it was immediately clear that it's faster than my old 400x Cards. I think that's to be expected. Anyway, I was starting to wonder how fast it was. I assume this is a fairly new card, there have been no official reviews of this card online. I found this thread on Fred Miranda's forums. [.]. Unfortunately, no data was available for this particular 1066x card. So I decided to add my own. (I have vw151 on FM) I found this. 1DX17-40L @ 24mmF/5.61/4000thISO100 fresh battery manual focus 12FPSRAWLexar 32GB UDMA 7 1066x ------------156fps 30sec burst Did 2x test, once 155, once 156. One Another metric I think could be useful in this thread is the total size of files created to account for the difference in file size captured by different cameras. For example 1Dx vs. 1D4. Anyway, in both cases my total file size was around 3.19GB. Count, and it turns out to be around 106 MB/s. File size is approximately 21MB per image. I think the recorded frames plus this data gives a clear indication of the card's performance. I have 2 tickets. I will test 2 more times with another card.**************************************** * * ********* OKI ran 4 more tests on the second card but changed the parameters in 2 tests. 155 shots 3.23 GB RAW 12 fps Avg. 5.16 fps 107.67 MB/s 148 fps 3.11 GB RAW 12 fps average 4.9 fps 103.67 MB/s 312 shots 1.57 GB JPEG 12 fps average 10.4 fps 52.33 MB/s 324fps 1.63GB JPEG 14fps, mirror lock 10.8fps 54.33MB/s Interestingly JPEG @ 12fps. It doesn't look like I've ever run out of buffer, but Jpeg @ 14fps hit the buffer hard after about 10 seconds. seconds. I'm also seeing file transfer speeds from card to SSD or RAID0 of around 115MB/s. Please note that these are real tests and not lab tests. However, if I reproduced the test on the FM forum well enough, it turned out that the recording speed in 1DX is no better than 1000x, with which the tester made 160 recordings in 30 seconds. There is nothing wrong with that as 1066x is the successor to 1000x and it seems that with these cards we are taking full advantage of the CF interface.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • I'm not happy with everything
