I decided to make a 37" x 19.5" Betsy Ross flag by using a 1" x 10" x 10 'x 37" piece of pine ripped. x 1.5" strips by burning each strip with a propane torch, coloring each appropriately, attaching them to four 1.5" wide vertical strips with nails and glue, then the Hand engrave stars and 1776 with a Dremel and then applied 3 coats of polyurethane. I think it turned out quite well for a first try! Using a Betsy Ross template, I marked the edge of the bruise with a utility knife blade (the blade was later used as a mask in the color glasses.) For the stars and 1776 I used a pencil to trace the outlines, then used my dremel with a precision engraving tool to draw the pencil lines first and then to remove the painted wood within this outline. With a steady hand, engraving was really easy and it's easier than I expected. Now I've been asked to make a smaller flag so I'll have to buy a different stencil size! I couldn't have done it without this great product - definitely recommended for your 37" x 19.5" flag project. It cuts well and lasts a long time.
