BEST iPod Portable Speaker (edited by LONG TERM TEST)

I got my im9 a week ago and am in love with this thing. I've owned over 20 different boom boxes and portable players in my life. I live in Miami and go to the pools and beach regularly. This is the best portable audio system. Great sound, great portability and powered by 4C batteries that last 18-22 hours. The price seemed a little high but now I understand it's worth every penny. This is a great high quality product. The only competitor I've seen is the Altec Lansing im7. I read reviews that im7 is better. Well the im7 is HUGE, takes 8 D batteries (lasts 8-10 hours) and weighs 10 pounds. The im9 is about the size of a textbook and weighs 5 pounds with batteries. The Im9 sounds fantastic and is loud enough for a pool or beach. I'm glad I have im9 instead of im7. It also comes with a FREE backpack with extra pockets for cords, accessories, and a water bottle. You will not be disappointed. LONG TERM TEST added 01/24/2009: Having first bought the im9 about 3 1/2 years ago, I am amazed that it still works. The metal grille of the speaker is broken. The scratches and dents seem cosmetically obvious, there's sand in every nook and cranny, but it still sounds the same as the first day I bought it. This is one of the best investments I've ever made. I have lots of pictures of bikini dancing beaches to prove it. I originally bought it for $179. Nothing beats this device for portability, durability, sound and battery life. When I saw it for $60 I ordered a second one! I think this unit has been discontinued. Haven't seen it in electronics stores for a long time. Probably because the iPhone/iPod Touch doesn't fit in the door frame. (Apple screwed it up again.) So grab a piece of electronics history before it's gone. I placed this electronic masterpiece next to a Technics SL-1200 MK2 turntable. It really is that good.
