Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic forced me to leave the office to work full-time from home, I've found that I I often have audio problems with video conferences. My company laptop's built-in microphone sounded muffled and muffled, and I had to speak very loudly to be heard, even after adjusting all of the Windows sound settings. However, microphones and telephones for conferences were missing. I did a little research and found that I can remap the Rode VideoMic GO I bought to use with my DSLR. However, the 3.5mm mic cable that came with the mic was very short, a few inches at most. I was in a dilemma, I didn't have a 3.5mm cable that was long enough. I also liked the strain relief provided by the coiled cable. I decided to order one of those 3.5mm extension cables so I could place the Rode on top of the monitor and run the cable to my laptop dock. I liked that there was a 90 degree plug on one end so I could tuck the cable away from the side of the laptop. I'm happy to report that the setup works great - call quality improved immediately. This is of course due to the significantly improved microphone, but I could not have done it without this cable. The cable is well made, snaps into place on both the mic and docking station and I don't hear any audible interference. I suspect this cable will outlive the laptop! Keep in mind that if you want to create a similar setup for yourself, you need to check the microphone port as well as the ports available on your computer. You'll most likely need an additional adapter if you have a headphone/mic combo jack, or a separate USB mic adapter if your device doesn't have a mic jack. However, if you're looking to add an analog microphone to your system or extend the range of your headphone cable, this is for you.
