I've been using the Nagoya 771 for a long time to access my local repeater on my UV5R from home. The standard UV5R antenna just doesn't fit in. However, at 17 inches, the Nagoya can feel a bit awkward, especially when clipped to pants or a belt. When I saw this Twayradio Tactical I thought I'd give it a try. I wasn't paying attention when I accidentally ordered and received this connector with a SMA connector (UV5R is also a SMA connector). Luckily I had an SMA jack handy. I have to say it performs as well as the Nagoya and it's a whopping 4 inches! To expand it, simply unfold and snap. Click again to remove. I can hear conversations on my repeater when it's folded and I only extend it to transmit. It is rated at 2.5 dBi at 2 meters and 3.2 dBi at 70 centimetres. It's much more convenient to carry around, which is why this little tactical tool is so cool. You can just put it in your pocket or leave it attached to your hand. Try to stow a 17 inch whip compactly. Great little item for any amateur radio operator and will travel with me a lot.
