These little silicone bowls had a VERY strong smell when I first unwrapped them and it took over a week for the smell to go away . scatter Also, it's a pretty smart idea. I think the main benefit of these bowls is that they keep your fingers clean and provide extra friction to clean your brushes and remove more dirt. The instructions state that the brushes should be immersed in clean water before and after brushing in the silicone bowl. Instead, I just held my brushes under the tap. I usually lather and rub these brushes under the faucet. I really felt like there was value in those 'clean bowls' and it was fun to watch all the junk go away too. I rinsed and filled the bowl several times until I couldn't see any debris. I don't think it saved me time (or water) but I preferred it to my usual method. They're not very stable, so I kept my hands on the bowl while using it. As far as I can tell, the pink and blue shells are identical (except for the color). It seemed to me that the dark powder on my brush might have discolored the blue bowl a bit. I call it "nice to have" (as opposed to "should have").
