WD Elements 2TB hard drive has been working fine for me for a few months. I've used it to back up my computer's hard drive and have had no problems using it with USB 2.0 and 3.0 connections. It's formatted for use with Windows (I mainly use mine with Windows 7), but it can be reformatted for Mac, although I haven't tried it. This is a basic drive that's great for basic file backups. I back up the files I want manually and let them transfer. While transfer speeds are reasonable, backing up a computer with many files (especially photos, videos, and music) can take several hours. It comes with a free trial of backup software (SmartWare Pro) which I found cumbersome to use. Since I don't use the drive for auto backup (and don't leave it plugged into my computer), I have no problem using the drive without one. I'm deducting a star from my rating simply because the software isn't particularly user-friendly and, in my opinion, is more trouble than it's worth. If you're looking for a simple, compact, high-capacity external drive, I recommend WD Elements.
