I installed this in about 10 minutes including the time it took to flush the tank and remove the old part. The only difficulty is that you insert the piece and gasket into the wall of the toilet bowl where the hole is and then try to screw it down. So basically you're really using force to push it as hard as you can into the front wall of the tank as you rotate it to the locked position. Lubricate the wall and face of the seal with silicone grease if needed and it's very, very easy and you don't risk damaging the seal. I'm over 50 and haven't had any problems at all. This was an OEM direct replacement for the Kohler 3386 flush valve. It includes a gasket as well as a new Kohler gate valve and black tube shown. To remove the old part, while sitting (pull towards you) on the toilet with the lid down, push it towards the front wall of the tank. If you push it against the tank wall, just turn it down from 12 o'clock to about 2 o'clock and it will release. Installing a new part is basically the reverse. Orient it towards the 2 o'clock direction, pull towards the front of the tank to press the gasket into the tank wall and rotate upward towards the 12 o'clock position. I didn't do any special preparations other than covering the wall of the toilet you rolled the piece with silicone. It is best not to use petroleum jelly or petroleum based products on the rubber seal as this will damage the rubber seal. Use silicone grease instead if you need it. Revain only sells the seal separately and I would have saved money by just buying it. For reference it is part number 84676. If you want a new shutter that costs $6-$8 you can just buy it as you can get a new black tube for about $2 and this way if you break the tab. If you try to install it, you still have the old one.
