Review on Sony DEJ011 Portable Walkman CD Player: Must-have Classic (Discontinued by Manufacturer) by Nick Kussmaul

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The location of the battery, the location of the buttons is not very good.

This will be my third Sony player in a decade (or more). The first lasted forever (years), withstood tons of bullying, traveled well and was great. He eventually started hopping and then died. The second one also worked well for the first year, then I stopped using it as much and eventually it started jumping a lot and for two years I replaced it with this model. I'm guessing Sony just isn't making them as good as they used to, based on some of the reviews. This one works well, so far (one month), almost daily use. Without passports. The sound is the same (good quality). Otherwise this model is not interesting for me. The battery location is inconvenient, unlike previous models. I bought this device for a relative who has technical problems. The buttons on the previous two models were on top, easy to see and use, and larger. The control buttons of this new model are on the side, very small and a bit difficult to see. I equipped it with a power supply, small speakers and a subwoofer so that it is not used as a CD player, but as a CD player that cannot be moved unless it needs to be turned on or off etc. ( because access to buttons is not possible without lifting). For my purposes, as mentioned above, this model is a cheap alternative to a full-size CD player and as such works "well". Judging by the reviews of other models, this is the best device. Here's hoping this lasts for a while.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Almost OK
