I like it, but the filters are too expensive

I love this product but to be honest if I had known the filters only last about four months and it costs about $40 to replace I probably wouldn't have bought this expensive home appliance. It takes up a lot of shelf (or countertop) space so I put it in the climate controlled greenhouse we have. It is waterproof and works very well. I have an outside composter but it takes forever and it's frustrating to put stuff in because even though we don't put meat in it it still stinks. This one doesn't stink at all. It doesn't make compost, but makes a nutrient-rich fertilizer. I've found that it works best when every bucket of recycled food includes our everyday coffee crumbs. It still seems to require a mix of wet and dry ingredients to work at its best. When I first ran it I took some old grapes and tomatoes and ended up with what we called dried jelly. Escaping the bucket was almost impossible and I thought I broke it. Luckily, soaking completely solved the problem. Once you understand how it works, it becomes so easy to use. This dehydrates the food, then grinds it, heat sterilizes it, and finally refrigerates it. If you lay down meat in large quantities, it can recover when it rains in the garden and attract flies. So what I do with my buckets that have a lot of meat in them is take dried processed foods and mix them really well with potting soil. Caution: Make sure everyone in the family knows what's in the device. My husband was thinking of a composter so he put it outside. Luckily heavy rain didn't harm him! It's very durable, but it's not designed for the street! We let it dry before using it again and it works fine. The cycle lasts about 6 hours so I find it best to leave it on overnight. This works very well for us. Our garbage stinks a lot less. I found that I became routine with it. I run it at night and drain it in the morning. My husband puts his coffee grounds in and when I boil I add the rest of the bowl. It takes longer if I clean up after dinner and then ride my bike before bed. He processes bread, but my hens really appreciate corn and bread! (If it weren't for them, I'd probably have to run extra cycles during the week.) Sometimes I have more food waste than buckets of space, but usually a bucket is perfect for a full day's worth of food waste. a family of three adults where almost all meals are freshly prepared and we very rarely eat out. Hello, baby! It's easy to use. The only problem I had was figuring out how to put a bucket in it. You simply point the arrow on the bucket at the back of the recycler. Then it comes in easily. The bucket has a nice handle and a filtered lid so it doesn't stink if you leave it in the kitchen. I put smelly peeled garlic in it after flowering and it didn't smell with the lid on.
