Review on Enhance Your Photography: Nikon SB-700 AF Speedlight Flash for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras by Iseul Chang ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A great option for this money, one of the best offers.

I used SB900 and short time SB600. As I already wrote, the flash bundle is a pleasant surprise. Quality storage bag, two filters, diffuser and foot. The plastic light filters are not the ones that come with the SB900 and it is much more convenient to use them than the film light filters. The SB700 has all the features of its older sister (SB900) and these are CLS, Highspeedsync, Advanced Wireless Lighting. There is also a very significant change compared to the SB600, the ability to use the flash as a Master, that is, to set fire to other flashes. Using the SB700 as a master is more convenient than, say, the SB900 due to its smaller size and weight, and more convenient than the built-in flash, since the SB700 head can be rotated. Very pleased with the flash control concept, the same as the SB900, even improvements have been made in some cases. There is a separate switch for changing lighting patterns, as in the SB900, and other important settings can be switched quickly without using the menu. When using a lens with a CPU, the flash itself recognizes the focal length and adjusts the zoom head to it. In general, flash control is easy and intuitive (much lighter than SB600). The SB700 does not have a sync contact like the SB900, but it is still not a competitor to the SB900, but a continuation of the SB600. Power, here, of course, the SB700 is inferior to its older sister. For example, the guide number on the DX matrix at ISO100 is 50mm focal length for the SB700 34.5 and for the SB900 46! But the "range" of both SBs is equal, at ISO1600 20 meters. Of course, in the end, everyone decides for himself how important the difference in power is to him, but the more the better. I personally really like the SB700, compared to the SB600, significant improvements in control have been made and features such as the Master have been added. Compared to the SB 900, the SB 700 is inferior, of course, in terms of power and the absence of a sync contact. But today, the difference in price between the SB700 and SB900 is quite significant (4k-5k). And for non-pros, it makes no sense to overpay. And for the pros, this option can be a good alternative to the built-in flash or the SU800 module.

Pros
  • Body quality and ergonomics. master function. Size(compared to SAT 900). High-quality and rather rich equipment (diffuser, two light filters, leg, storage bag)
Cons
  • Not as powerful as SB 900

If you have a Nikon, buy this one, or SB 910 and you won't know any problems in photography.
