Over time, an unpleasant growth formed under the hinged lid from flaking coffee / bacteria that settled, whatever it was. This mug has been rinsed and hand washed with every use. The sad thing is there are no replacement or other lid options so I have to throw this mug away. I really enjoyed it until I noticed tons of debris spilling out after putting something in my mouth and I wondered how long I had been poisoning myself with my coffee mug. The mug stays hot at all times and is definitely airtight, but there is a distinct flaw in the design that can lead to serious illness or death due to buildup over time. DO NOT buy this unless they change the lid design. After being annoyed by this problem, I would not put stars, which is not for me, but the app forces you to put at least one star, it's dangerous for your health! The stain in this photo is AFTER soaking, cleaning, using paper towels, pressing fully into the lid of the jar, and shaking vigorously to form a flake. It is clear that after you have rinsed both sides of the lid well, it will never be enough to prevent this problem from occurring.
