I'm a radio amateur using a rack of external audio processing equipment. I have a nice balanced line mic for my mixer (RE27), but I also wanted to try an old electret mic. I first tried to find a quick fix for a balanced to unbalanced connection by shorting the negative terminal to ground or ground. the microphone worked, but with a 120 Hz hum even with the shielded cable. I bought this handy transformer to convert unbalanced to balanced and the hum is gone and with the right EQ the old mic sounds nice. I plan to buy a few more of these to connect other unbalanced mics to my mixer.
