Review on Thule Covert DSLR Backpack Slate by Cheryl Griffin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It's big, heavy and fits all of your gear and maybe all of your friends!

I've been a hobby photographer for ten years and I always use fake bags and cases. Well after smashing a new bag and busting one of my Canon 1.5k lenses I decided to go for something sturdier and better finished. I wanted something that could carry everything I need for a trip without clothes or toiletries. I can easily fit my camera, 4 lenses, flash, light rings, filters, chargers, cage and accessories, as well as my two laptops, various USB drives, tools and even my iPad for reading. And frankly, there's room to spare. I forgot. Now I understand why it is called "hidden". All my gear is well packed and protected, this bag has moveable sides to accommodate your gear needs. It has interesting attachment methods and some really nice magnetic clasps that I really like. However, this bag is huge and heavy. I'm used to carrying a large bag on my back, typically weighing 20-30 pounds. Now I'm closer to 50. And it doesn't bother me too much, but on long journeys or journeys it puts a strain on my back and shoulders. The sheer bulk of the bag filled it up huge at one point, and easily looked like I was going on a two-week mountain hike with a backpack and sleeping gear. But I believe if you need more protection and need a lot of space then this will come at a price. However, after doing my research, I didn't expect this bag to be as big as it is. The only downside I have is the quality of the material. It feels good but just doesn't feel like what I should be getting for the price. My bags were made from the same material for $20-30. The quality looks better, the seams too. Overall I'm happy and I'm sure I'll love it even more. Pros/Cons included Pros: - Holds everything and even a little - Stylish - Definitely discreet with compartments throughout - Very well padded for great camera/electronics protection - Easy access to the camera through the side door Cons: - It's big and heavy - Material doesn't look great - It's confusing, pockets and sleeves in odd places - Needs more padding for shoulders - Expensive Overall I'm happy with it and I'm sure I'll grow and appreciate its subtle nuances more over time will .

Pros
  • Inner divider folds away so entire compartment can be used as a day bag
Cons
  • Long wait
