Review on Gas Magnum Shock Absorber - Monroe 555025 for Enhanced Performance by Aaron Shaw

Revainrating 5 out of 5

First check the size of the existing shock absorber

I was looking to replace our old hydraulic shock absorbers on the fifth wheel with new gas shock absorbers. I should note that the comparison charts show that the replacement gas shock for our existing hydraulic shocks is part number 555001. As other reviewers have noted, these 555025 shocks are rated for trailers over 10,000 lbs GVW. Our fifth wheel weighs just over 10,300 pounds so based on other reviews I ordered this in place of 555001. However, once they arrived, it quickly became apparent that they were significantly longer than the existing shocks in our setup. When fully compressed these shocks are easily 1 1/2 to 2 inches longer than fully compressed old ones. Advice online suggests that this could cause damage when the shock fully compresses where more spring travel is needed. I sent these shocks back and ordered version 555001 instead. Shipping back cost us $30 PLUS a 10% restocking fee, so it's worth taking a little time to figure out what you really need before you order.
