This is the second scratching post of this brand and model that we have bought so we were happy enough with the first to buy it back. I have to say this is a much better quality out of the box. Our previous one, which cats used a lot for over 3 years, held up well enough but the plastic inserts in the tubes didn't hold up. I had to hot glue them again or replace them with plywood circle cutouts and then use wood glue. This tree also came together much better out of the box and so far it seems to be holding up much better. It's the same design etc. I can only assume that the people who assembled the lamps just took more care. Overall, this is a good scratching post. We still have the old one. I've (again) remade the whistles whenever possible and put them in the garage for the time being, where the cats loll on them. They have a cat valve to get out of there. Another criticism is that the fabric used for these trees is very thin. Again, this should last at least a few years, but if your cats are avid scratchers, your mileage may vary.
