Received this today after wanting a more robust pulse oximeter to monitor my sleep apnea. I have one of the (slightly) cheaper devices that clips to your finger, but it's awkward to use when trying to sleep. I wore the device on my wrist for an at home sleep study and I love how it works and feels. When I saw this one I decided to order it. When it arrived, the first thing I did was charge it. It took 4-6 hours to fully charge. On the side of the device is a MINI USB port, not Micro USB for charging, and an RGB LED to show charging status when the device is off. They could improve the design by going to Micro-USB and a smaller LED, but I think for some people the smaller connector, which is used for charging as well as connecting the sensor and possibly data transfer, is more difficult. The larger connector is more reliable, so it's fine. There are several adhesive labels attached to it, which I removed (apart from the serial number) with isopropanol. Because they were touching the skin, I wanted them to go away. The serial number sticker also touches the skin and I'll probably remove it later, try to salvage it and stick it according to the instructions that came with it. The OLED display is very beautiful and bright. Has four brightness settings. The display and functionality is _very_ similar to my other oximeter which is probably about eight years old. I have a strong suspicion that the firmware and software were written using the same underlying code and probably the same development team. The setup (for me) was intuitive because it was very similar to my other pulse oximeter. The alarms and pulse tones are quite loud and annoying. Fortunately, they can be turned off. Since these are alarms I think they must be loud and annoying! The software comes on a minidisk and installs without any problems on my Win7-64 computer. After launching the program, it took some time to load all the drivers, including the wireless USB drivers. After everything booted up, I turned on the wireless functionality of the pulse oximeter and told the software to scan for transmitters. After about 30 seconds, he connected to the pulse oximeter and began displaying real-time data. Heart rate and saturation percentage are displayed on separate graph strips. The only feature I LOVE is that you can change the y-axes of the charts independently! My old pulse oximeter wouldn't allow this and everything was condensed into a single graph display that didn't suit everyone, making it difficult to identify the details. The software also allows you to name your pulse oximeter if you have more than one. This also allows you to sync the pulse oximeter's clock to your computer so you don't have to do it manually. Recording data is easy. First you activate the recording via the menu of the pulse oximeter. A message will appear on the display that recording is in progress, and after about 30 seconds the display will turn off to save battery power. Interestingly, you can still connect via software while recording (if you're using Bluetooth). It shows the data in real time and you can see that the data is stored on the device but you can't access it because (in my case) it was still in write mode. To access and transfer data, you must go back to the recording menu and turn it off. You can then download and save the data into the software. The presentation of the data seems to be quite complete. I'm excited to see what the data would look like in a few hours instead of a few minutes! Overall I'm happy with the purchase so far. The only criticism is the watch strap. This is a rubberized plastic with a traditional buckle closure mechanism. It works, but it's a bit cumbersome. The professional device I had in the hospital during my sleep study had a Velcro strap that was very easy to adjust. It doesn't look like replacing the band with these would be easy or even possible, which is a shame. This flexibility would make it accessible to a wider audience. Let's see how this device holds up!
