I had been using a Marshal Stanmore II bluetooth speaker to listen to the same music and was looking for a portable alternative of comparable quality. the bass is really muted. If you've never heard anything like this before and these headphones are your first, the sound quality may blow you away. Rather than listening to music, I would recommend using them to watch movies and other multimedia. This is the first Apple product I've owned that has fallen short of my lofty expectations. It will serve its purpose; an airplane does not need anything more sophisticated than a noise detector, etc.
