Although the drawstring is long enough, the material around the waist does not stretch or large enough that they can hardly be pulled over the hips when trying on. The main reason why they should not be bought is the crotch. The inside crotch area is not the flat surface you associate with swimwear. Instead, it's a 1/2" deep seam, a very thick seam, actually multiple seams going through a very "sensitive area." Mine came without the sanitary napkin that you've come to expect from swimwear, so I did Haven't tried it (because it's disgusting) but has enough flaws not to order again.
