Strong, beautiful, weather resistant, these lanterns also help keep our feathered friends warm. We already have a few feet of snow in November, so my bird friends are heavily dependent on the bird feeders and the water from the fountains that I keep pouring into my ponds. I keep these lanterns not only as Christmas decorations on my porch, but also because they provide a warm perch for wild birds to feel comfortable waiting in line for feeders. Last year two pairs of birds nested and raised chicks near my fires. This year I put up birdhouses in the same area and the birds love it. Yesterday early in the morning I looked out of the window and there were 8 tits, 2 meadow larks and a large woodpecker on a light rope. Woodpeckers seem to prefer warm perch to eat lard. My other Christmas lights in the garden are solar powered, but I will always put up strings of these warm lights to welcome our precious mountain birds to my garden.
