The material is very soft and flexible. Soft touch and gentle on baby's gums. My son's teeth started cutting when he was two months old. Lately he seems to enjoy rubbing his gum on his back. His current teether is too short for him to bite. I'm glad I found this teether. The teething ring has a protection so that the baby does not put it in his mouth too deeply. I don't have to worry about security. The tip can be used like a toothbrush to clean his gums and gently rub him when he needs it. The size is perfect too. It is very easy for me or his little hand to hold. At first he couldn't hold it himself, but he likes it when I rub it on my gums. Now he can hold it alone, and he likes to put it in his mouth and bite it. Only criticism is that the suction cup holder doesn't hold up well. It felt easy. You have to press hard to keep it on the wooden table. Overall I am very happy with my purchase and will buy again if I need another one
